Descendants  of  survivors

Burrowed, starved, scrabbled

Millions of hard years,

Ramified adaptations

Dark-cornered genius

Surrender their young

To multiple predators

Yet  overtake death

Thrive on scraps, the drops

And leavings  of  the  careless

Even  venturing into light
